FAQs

Dubuque Dental Associates, PC

  • How much does dentistry cost?

Dental costs can vary significantly based on the specific procedure and individual patient factors. It's best to consult with our office for a personalized estimate.
  • How do I know if my insurance will cover my dental procedure?

Generally, dental insurance covers routine cleanings and may partially cover other procedures. However, most dental treatments typically involve some out-of-pocket expenses. We recommend contacting your insurance provider for specific coverage details.
  • When should I first take my child to the dentist?

It's recommended to schedule your child's first dental visit by their first birthday or within six months after their first tooth appears, whichever comes first.
  • If I have dentures, do I need to keep seeing the dentist?

Regular dental visits are still important for denture wearers. These check-ups help maintain overall oral health and ensure your dentures continue to fit properly and function effectively.
  • What sedation options do you offer at your office?

Our office primarily uses local anesthesia for dental procedures. We don't currently offer sedation dentistry options.
  • Can I drive after having a tooth extraction?

If only local anesthesia was used for your tooth extraction, you should be able to drive afterward. However, if you received sedation or general anesthesia, it's not safe to drive and you should arrange alternative transportation.
  • Can I go back to work after having a tooth extraction?

Returning to work after a tooth extraction is usually possible, depending on the procedure's complexity and how you're feeling. If you need time off, we can provide a note for your employer.
  • Can I use baking soda to whiten my teeth?

We don't recommend using baking soda to whiten teeth as it can be too abrasive and potentially damage your tooth enamel. Please consult with us for safe and effective whitening options.
  • I am prone to canker sores, is there a toothpaste that can help? Are there foods that make my canker sores worse?

Using a toothpaste without sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) may help reduce canker sore occurrences. To prevent irritation, it's advisable to avoid acidic, spicy, and salty foods, which can exacerbate canker sore symptoms.
  • My child has an adult tooth coming in behind a baby tooth, what should I do?

This is a common occurrence. Encourage your child to gently wiggle the baby tooth to promote its natural falling out. As the adult tooth emerges, it typically dissolves the baby tooth's roots, leaving it attached only by soft tissue.
